Overview

The National Schools' Podcast Competition (NSPC) 2008, running for the second year, will see students from all levels competing to be the best in hosting their own show.

This competition will allow schools to understand the technologies behind a podcast and how different media like video, audio, pictures and pdf files can be presented as a podcast and distributed for access by a general audience.

Aims of the project

• To get the youth to be interested in original and creative media creation.
• To encourage "freedom of speech".
• To give students a chance to showcase their talent.
• To create mass awareness for podcasting.

Competition

The nature of this competition is to have a regular update of content over a period of time, akin to a newspaper or magazine subscription.

There are 3 categories: Primary / Secondary / Teachers

Prizes

The prizes for each category will be as follow:
1st Prize: 80Gb iPod Classic and trophy for the school
2nd Prize: 4Gb iPod Nano and trophy for the school
3rd Prize: 1 Gb iPod Shuffle and trophy for the school

There will also be 2 special mentioned awards ($50 iSHOP voucher each award) for the most creative podcast and the most innovative marketing brief.

Newsflash:
There is also a new category added to the competition: the MDA awards, sponsored by MDA. The topic for this is 'Cyber-Wellness', and a 2GB iPod Shuffle is the prize for the winning entry.

SUGGESTED topics

Education:

• E.g.: Having been through the education system, what changes would you like to see implemented for Singapore
  (for Level 3 and 4 entries)

Environment:

• E.g.: Going Green - What can we do as an individual and Nation?

Social:

• E.g.: How can we evolve into a more socially aware and gracious society?

New Media:

• E.g.: How do you picture the world will be like in the next 10 years with new media playing a bigger part of our lives.

Local talents:

• E.g.: How can our local talents become world reknown?

Arts:

• E.g.: Does Singapore have a vibrant arts scene? How so? What more can be done?

How To:

• Instructional series:
  • Teach others how you are enjoying the benfits of Interactive Digital Media (IDM) such as podcasting. Your instruction video should teach how to enjoy IDM products and services, such as mobile phone games, social networking, sharing photos & videos, using 3G video calls, setting up Wifi networks, etc.

This competition is jointly organized by Elchemi Education & iSHOP by Club21 and supported by MDA, MediaAction!, MediaCorp Radio & Podcast.sg.
